Sunday, September 28.Starting at the Laurel River Trailhead, near Hot Springs, NC, seven people hiked to the confluence of the Laurel and French Broad Rivers, then continued to the Stackhouse.
Saturday, September 27. Seven hikers climbed from Massie Gap to Rhododendron Gap on the AT and Wilburn Ridge Trails in the Grayson Highlands/Mt. Rogers Area in Virginia.
Sunday, September 14. Four club members hiked from Old Forge to Horse Creek on the Big Jennings Creek and Poplar Cove Trails.
Sunday, September 7 Ten people had a cookout at Murray Branch Picnic Area followed by a hike on the Laurel River Trail. The trail at Murray Branch is overgrown and badly in need of maintenance.
Saturday, September 6 Six club members attended the air show in Middlesboro, KY, followed by a short hike at the Cumberland Gap Tunnel visitors center.
Wednesday, September 3 Eight Wednesday Walkers did the track at Tusculum.
August 29-31 Six people attended the car camp in Smokemont Campground just north of Cherokee, N.C. On Saturday two persons hiked a 20 mile loop on the Bradley Fork, Hughes Ridge and Chasteen Creek Trails. Three others started their hike with a shuttle to Newfound Gap and began their hike on the AT, then ending on the same trails mentioned before, covering about 21 miles. One solo hiker did the Smokemont Loop Trail. On Sunday, the group did two short hikes; the first to a cemetery above Mingus Mill and the second on a segment of the AT between Clingman's Dome and Newfound Gap.
Sunday, August 24 Eight people did maintenance on the riverside trail at Davy Crockett State Park in Limestone.
Saturday, August 23 Six club members biked the Cade's Cove Loop Road and hiked in to Abram's Falls for lunch.
Wednesday, August 20 Three Wednesday Walkers visited the recently dedicated Relocation on Big Firescald Knob.
Sunday, August 17 After six years of hard work, the Firescald Relocation on the AT was officially dedicated. Approximately fifty people were in attendance from a wide variety of states along with ten members of the club. After the ceremony, we did trail maintenance on the far end of our section.
Saturday, August 16 Nine club members hiked the Big Butt Trail adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway between Asheville, N.C. and Mt. Mitchell. Although the day was dreary and wet, the fresh berries along the trail made this a great outing.
Sunday, August 10 The mystery hike was not mystery, just a typical (for this year, at least) rainy afternoon. Five hikers did a short trip on the Relo.
Saturday, August 9 On a dreary, rainy day, eight bikers rode 42 mile on the New River Trail in Virginia from the Shot Tower State Park to Fries and back.
Wednesday, August 6 Six Wednesday Walkers were on the Tusculum Track.
Saturday, August 2 Five bikers rode about 15 miles in the Brighthope area off the Newport Highway.
Wednesday, July 30 Nine attended the compass and map reading seminar held at Roby Center.
Sunday, July 27 Four bikers rode from Doak School to Davy Crockett State Park and back.
Saturday, July 26 Six hikers drove to the Smokies and split up into two groups. One group started from Elkmont and the other at the end of the Tremont Road. The groups met up at Jake's Gap and continued to the AT on the Miry Ridge Trail. They then returned to Tremont on the AT, Greenbrier Ridge and Middle Prong Trails.
Sunday, July 20 On a very hot and humid afternoon, eight hikers descended the AT from Rich Mountain Tower to Tanyard Gap, followed by a picnic at Murray Branch Picnic Area on the French Broad River.
Saturday, July 19 Nine hikers went about eight miles on the Rattlesnake Lodge section of the Mountain-to-Sea Trail close to Weaverville, N.C. The club had as its guide and host, Jorge Munoz of the Carolina Mountain Club.
Wednesday, July 16 Three Wednesday Walkers did the Tusculum Track.
Sunday, July 13 There was another big Sunday afternoon turnout, as eleven hiked from the Meadow Creek Tower to the Highway 107 campground on the Meadow Creek Mountain and Gum Springs Trails.
Saturday, July 12 Five bikers rode about 18 miles in Townsend followed by a tubing float down the Little River. High water conditions made for a rough and tumble ride in the frigid waters.
Sunday, July 6 We had a good turnout of twelve for the mystery hike to Dark Hollow. This turned out to be where Dick Creek Falls is located about two miles from Rock Creek Park near Erwin. THis is a very unique type of waterfall although hard to locate.
Saturday, July 5 Only two club members were crazy enough to hike nearly twenty miles in the rain on the Twentymile, Long Hungy Ridge, Gregory Bald, Twentymile Loop, Wolf Ridge and Appalachian Trails in the Smokies near Fontana Dam. A yearling bear was encountered along with six wet fords of the swollen creeks.
Thursday, July 3 The sun finally came out and five bikers rode about 15 miles from Doak School to River Plantation and back.
