GREENEVILLE HIKING CLUB - Summer 2004 Hiking Log

Sunday, September 26 Six hikers did about nine miles on the Cataloochee Divide, Hemphill Bald, Caldwell Fork and McKee Branch Trails near Maggie Valley in the Smokies.

Saturday, September 25 Six club members drove through Cumberland Gap and hiked to the Sand Cave which is on the Kentucky-Virginia Line.

Sunday, September 19 Five hikers went to Pete's Branch Falls near Horse Creek.

Saturday, September 18 Six hikers covered about 14 miles in the Smokies on the Little River, Rough Creek, Sugarland Mountain and Huskey Gap Trails.

Sunday, September 12 We had eight hikers for the choose-your-own-hike. The group did about five miles on Mill Ridge, Pump Gap and the AT near Hot Springs, N.C.

Saturday, September 11 Five hikers put on their water shoes and hiked to Wolf Creek Falls in Cocke Co. Tennessee.

Sunday, September 5 Four club members checked out the Margatette Falls Trail. The parking lot has been fixed and provides room for several vehicles. The trail is passable but difficult to follow in places.

Saturday, September 4 Five hikers covered about 13 1/2 miles in the Smokies on the Beech Gap and Hyatt Ridge Trails.

Sunday, August 29 Ten hikers climbed up the trail from Paint Rock to the Chimney Rocks Overlook and back.

Saturday, August 28 We had a good turnout for the YMCA Run. The club rode our bikes and helped with crowd control for the runners. After the event, eight bike riders rode from Hot Springs to Dudley Falls and back.

Wednesday, August 25 Four Wednesday Walkers hiked several miles on the Kingsport Greenway.

Sunday, August 22 Six hikers covered the southern part of the AT on Camp Creek Bald.

Saturday, August 21 Five club members hiked eight miles on the AT from the trailhead above Hampton to Laurel Fork Falls.

Saturday, August 14 Six club members hiked on the Appalachian Trail from Sams Gap To Devils Fork Gap.

Sunday, August 1 Three participants rode bikes about 20 miles from Doak School to Davy Crockett State Park.

Saturday, July 31 There were nine participants on the five mile hike on the Mountain-To-Sea Trail about 20 miles South of Asheville, NC.

Sunday, July 25 Five workers did trail maintenance on the club's section of the Appalachian Trail.

Wednesday, July 21 Four persons hiked on the the Virginia Creeper Trail and also made a side trip to Backbone Rock and Backbone Falls.

Sunday, July 18 Five workers turned out on Sunday for a work trip on the Appalachian Trail.

Saturday, July 10 Seven hikers trudged 21 miles from Clingman's Dome along the AT then descended to Fontana Lake on the Welch Ridge and Hazel Creek Trails. Many thanks to Peggy Moore and Linda Jones for shuttling the van.

Sunday, July 4 Six hikers were on the Balsam Mountain/AT/Snake Den Ridge Trails hike on the Smokies. The group split up for a key swap with two going in from Cosby and four starting at Pin Oak Gap on the Heintooga Road in North Carolina.

Saturday, July 3 Four canoeists paddled the Nolichucky River from the dam to the Newport Highway Bridge.
